Antique Austrian Art Nouveau Schutz Cilli Majolica Tazza & Six Matching Plates:
Up for your consideration is this fabulous antique Austrian/Slovenian majolica Tazza and six matching desert plates, made in soft teal aquamarine color with a butterfly/moth motif. The set dates to the late 19th century. It is in good overall condition with the following condition issues, none of which detract from the beauty of the set, one of the plates has a glaze pop about the size of an uncooked grain of rice, another plate has a glaze pop on the moths body about the size of a kernel of corn, The Tazza has some discoloration on the left wing begining at the body, the right eye has lost the glaze. There is loss of glaze on both side of the wings upper edge radiating outwards from the body. These are only mentioned for full condition disclosure.The Tazza stand 5.25 inches high the diameter is 11.25 inches and the diameter of the base is 5.5 inches the plates diameter is 7 3/8 inches.See photographs as they form part of the description. These complete sets are very rare indeed.
The brothers Schutz operated two factories one in Blansko now part of the Czech Republic the other in Cilli now part of Slovenia. They were prolific makers of majolica wares and the production ended with the outbreak of WWI.
