The Baird clock has always been at the top end and the most prized of the Antique Advertising Clock world. These clocks were only produced from 1887 to 1897 for various companies to Advertise their products. Not many original clocks survived.
In the world of Baird Clock Collecting, emerged an expert collector; Mr. Jerry Maltz, who sought after the best of the best, all original clocks. For over 40 years he searched the world over, always looking for that “never seen before” Baird clock. In 1998 he wrote a book on the subject of Baird Advertising Clocks and included photographs and stories of some of his rarest and special clocks. He has given many talks and seminars on the subject.
In what we believe to be an opportunity of a lifetime, you now have a chance to own one of these beautiful 120 year old clocks, right out of the pages of Mr. Maltzs’ Book. All of the clocks offered come from the Maltz Collection. Each clock that is featured in the book will include a copy of “Baird Advertising Clocks”, personally signed by Mr. Maltz to complete your treasure.
Astorlive has a Baird clock in its private collection, we have to admit it always make us smile when we hear that 120 year old baby ticking away… Companies like Coca Cola knew what they were doing when they ordered their Coke Clock from Baird Clock Co. in the late 1800's and sent it to vendors selling100 gallons of coke.Over120 years later, that clock is still selling cokes & telling time….. WOW, a true piece of “TIME” History….

The Okonite Company ~ Insulated Wires
As Quoted from the Book, "Baird Advertising Clocks" by Jerry Maltz:
The OKONITE INSULATED WIRES clock is a miniature model Baird clock. The company was established in 1878 by John Haven Cheever and Henry F. Durant, as the New York Insulating Company. They manufactured insulated cable wire made from a product called vulcanite.
They renamed the company Okonite Wire & Cable in 1885, taking the "OK" from the receipt signal commonly used by telegraphers at the conclusion of a message and the "nite" from the last syllable of vulcanite. The second "o" was added for the ease of pronunciation. In 1889, money was needed to finance the requirements of the growing company. Additional capital was sought. An English syndicate provided the funds, and for ten years Okonite operated as a British corporation.
Samuel F.B. Morse used Okonite Cable for his telegraph network, Thomas Edison used it for the nation's first electric generating station erected on Pearl Street in New York City in 1882.
The company is presently in business at its original location in Passaic, New Jersey. Some of the company's first buildings are still in use.
This clock can be found on pages 102 & 103of "Baird Advertising Clocks".
Also can be seen on page 25in the "Edward Payson Baird Inventor" Book by Leonard J Schiff (copy of this book included in this sale).
