Antique Brass Nanny Pin or Brooch

German * Circa 1905

This interesting little bar pin was supposedly made to be worn by nannies who might be in need of a pin or needle and thread at a moment's notice. The end unscrews to reveal a small needle inside wrapped with thread. A round goldstone is set in the front. It's in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage.

The brass brooch is also in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. The pin and catch are original and work perfectly. The back is stamped "DRGM" which was used from 1891-1945 and stands for Deutsches Reich Gebrauchs Muster. It indicates that the design of the item was registered with the German government. I can't read the registration number that follows it. It measures 1 7/8" long. Similar ones are shown on p. 208 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools.
