Description: An exquisite 19th century bronze meditating Sir Lanka Buddha, from a temple precinct in the island country of Sri Lanka, beautifully rendered in an exalted profile, intricately carved with exacting detail. Temple blessed and consecrated, Buddha sits on a single level pedestal, measuring 7.0 inches(17.78cm) in height.

Overview: This particular bronze image of a meditating Buddha is referred to as \"\"Wide leg\"\" type, which received a significant amount of influence from the Pala style art, which flourished in north east India between the 8th and 12th century. Lanka artist blended these influences into a individualized level of artistry, creating a distinct style of Buddha sculptures.XXX The primary resemblance to Pala is distinguished here by the image seated with a wide stance - knee to knee, where the meassurement knee to knee equals the distance from each should to each adjacent knee and from the middle of the forehead to the base in which he sits.

Image Details: A spiritual image of Buddha seated cross-legged in the \'Virasana\' pose, with one leg atop the sole of the other foot. The hands overlap one another displaying the \'Dhyana\' mudra, the attainment of spiritual perfection, and the concentration on good law, gesture. The body plump \'Khanon Thom\' covered by a Sanghati Robe worn diagonally over the left shoulder, and is graced by a heavily-pleated flap draped to the mid-section. The right shoulder is left bare. The Buddha features a well rounded face, with almond-shaped eyes downcast, curved eyebrows meet above a prominent nose, rounded chin, and contoured lips with an exalted expression, appear smiling. The head is covered by tiny pin curls, surmounted by a hemispherical \'Ushnisha\', topped by a lotus inclosed conical ornament finial.XXX The entirety is supported by a single level pedestal without ornamentation. The bronze surface has naturally aged to a deep chocolate brown patina covered with malachite oxidation. The core within the bronze is completely in tact, consisting of a tempered sandy-clay. The figure remains in its original state as acquire with no condition issues.
