as you can see by the pictures, it does light up. Cord and plug are usable. Metal shows patina/wear, plastic lens cover has water spots on it, it is push button operation, plug it in, push button in and hold until lamp glows, let go to illuminate, to turn off you hold button in until it shuts down. It measures approx 12\" x 10\", i believe early 1960\'s date. Sold as is as shown, all sales are final
