2/3 Marked w/Carolus M Hutschenreuther Size Code K 12

- DESCRIPTION -
Please be patient there are 11 photos to be loaded in this sale.

We ended up with three original Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther hand painted porcelain plaques, all framed in gilt frames. We are putting them up in three separate sales, check out all three.

Up in this sale is the second of the three Hutschenreuther plaques. It depicts Beatrice Cenci by Guido Reni, (Read more about this art below.) Incised on the back K 12 for Hutschenreuther's size code, it measures approx. 5" x 4" for the plaque, framed approx. 5 3/4" x 6 3/4". The painting is exquisitely done as are all Hutschenreuther plaques. They were the rival to KPM at the time, though Hutschenreuther porcelain factory was also the primary provider of blank porcelain plaques for dozens of porcelain decorating studios that operated in Germany.

We found this on Wikipedia:

Hutschenreuther is the name of the family that established the production of porcelain in Northern Bavaria, starting in 1814. The company was founded in 1814 by Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther (1794-1845) in Hohenberg an der Eger, Bavaria, Germany. He had previously worked at the Wallendorf porcelain manufactory in Lichte (Wallendorf).

Beatrice Cenci by Guido Reni

1577–99, Italian noblewoman, tragic figure of the late Renaissance. Her father, Francesco Cenci (1549–98), was a Roman noble noted for his viciousness. In 1595 he imprisoned Beatrice and her stepmother Lucrezia in a lonely castle; his cruel treatment finally led Beatrice, with the complicity of her stepmother, her brothers, and her lover, to procure his murder. After a famous trial (1599) the conspirators were put to death. This tragedy, often cited as an example of the dissipation and cruelty of 16th-century Rome, is the subject of, among other works, Francesco D. Guerrazzi's novel Beatrice Cenci, Percy Bysshe Shelley's tragedy The Cenci, and Alberto Ginastera's opera Beatrix Cenci.

According to the legend, Francesco Cenci abused his wife and his sons, and had reached the point of committing incest with Beatrice. He had been jailed for other crimes, but thanks to the leniency with which the nobles were treated, he had been freed early. Beatrice had tried to inform the authorities about the frequent mistreatments, but nothing had happened, although everybody in Rome knew what kind of person her father was. When he found out that his daughter had reported against him, he sent Beatrice and Lucrezia away from Rome, to live in the family's country castle. Exasperated, the four Cenci decided they had no alternative but to try and get rid of Francesco, and all together organized a plot. In 1598, during one of Francesco's stays at the castle, two vassals (one of whom had become Beatrice's secret lover) helped them to drug the man, but this failed to kill Francesco. Following this Beatrice, her siblings and step mother bludgeoned Francesco to death with a hammer and threw the body off a balcony to make it look like an accident. No one believed the death to be an accident.

The plot was discovered all the same and the four members of the Cenci family were arrested, found guilty, and sentenced to death. The common people of Rome, knowing the reasons for the murder, protested against the tribunal's decision, obtaining a short postponement of the execution. But pope Clement VIII showed no mercy at all: on September 11, 1599, at dawn, they were taken to Sant'Angelo Bridge, where the scaffold was usually built.

Giacomo was quartered with a mallet and had his limbs torn off and hung in the four corners; then Lucrezia and finally Beatrice took their turn on the block, to be beheaded with a sword. Only the young boy was spared, yet he too was led to the scaffold to witness the execution of his relatives, before returning to prison and having his properties confiscated (to be given to the pope's own family). Beatrice was buried in the church of San Pietro in Montorio. For the people of Rome she became a symbol of resistance against the arrogant aristocracy and a legend arose: every year on the night before her death, she came back to the bridge carrying her severed head. TERMS OF SERVICE

is ALL we do for a living, husband and wife (Norb & Marie) working together, while we home school our kids on our farmette in Rural Delmarva. We have worked very hard to build our little business and it is very important to us. We try and do business the old fashioned way and have a rather simple outlook.

Treat all of your customers as if they are family.

Be courteous, answer emails, be fair in all your deallings and try and make friends of each and every customer.

BUT... with 's new star rating and the rate increases in the U.S. Postal rates we needed to define and explain our methods of business.

ONE - Who We Deal With

We sell and ship world wide to anywhere, so please email us for a quote to wherever you happen to be.

TWO - Shipping Charges

We charge shipping based on the USPS system, we will sometimes ship via courier if we can get it to you within the same time frame or faster. We add a reasonable cost for materials, normally that is $2.00 for regular sized packages. For small flat items $1.00. That covers the expense of boxes, envelopes, bubble wrap, peanuts, (We only use new packing materials, life is too short to scrounge through dumpsters). For larger items that take a larger more expensive box, we charge a little more, to cover the special box, example paintings or lamps. For oversized items or items that will take special attention to package, (Build a crate, wrap a zillion things individually, etc.), we ask you to email us for a quote on shipping prior to the sale ending. If you do not, we charge the same amount as if you did. In other words WE NEVER GOUGE OUR CLIENTS SHIPPING COSTS!!

THREE - International Shipping

We charge shipping based on the USPS international system. The rates follow the same guidelines as number two above, though for international customers we add an additional $1.00 to cover the extra paperwork involved in international shipping. If an amount goes over $50 in value we will only ship it with Priority or Express Mail, regardless how small an item. That allows for us to have international tracking. There is no tracking available on First Class Mail.

FOUR - Insurance

's policies no longer allows us to charge the client for insurance. But... we still apply insurance to any item that goes over $27.00 in value. We reserve the right to use the insurance carrier of our choice. Sometimes that is Postal or the Carrier's Insurance and sometimes that is a private insurance company such as DSI or U-PIC/Shipsurance. If we use a private insurance company the package will not be marked insured, but it will be.

FIVE - Methods of Payment Accepted

We aoffere by 's rules and try and stay abreast of their changes. We accept Paypal. Paypal also accepts the major credit cards, or we also take Credit Cards Directly over the phone, (MC, VISA, DISCOVER, AMERICAN EXPRESS, CARTE BLANCHE, DINERS CLUB, JCB) Bottom line, whatever method is most convenient for you.

SIX - Time Frame To Pay

We ask all sales to be paid for in the fastest possible time frame. (This is all we do for a living and we need the money to pay the bills and buy more unique and fun items to put up on )

SEVEN - Shipping Time Frame

We make every effort to ship in a timely manner. We are home schooling the boys, listing tons of items, and as like any of us are just plain swamped, so we have to schedule a special time to pack and ship. We ship on a first paid, first shipped basis. (We do not ship any item until it has been paid and the funds have cleared.) With the ebb and flow of payments we manage to get everything out of the door within one week. If there is a rush, we will make every effort to work with you in getting it out of the door faster. As you can see from our response, we do not disappoint. OF COURSE, items that need special attention, crating, etc adds to the time frame of those items.

Finally, EIGHT - Communication

Please feel free to contact us at anytime, with any question or comment. Unless we are out of town we make an effort to answer all emails as quickly as possible.
