C19th \"H. French.C\" Stamped Silver Pie Marker Egyptian Pheasant game skewer. H.France was a metal smith and worked from 1870\'s-1890\'s. He made birds, Egyptian pheasant and rabbit meat skewers and other metal ware. This is antique skewer that he made. It is signed on the skewer part.
Acid Tested for .925 or above. A few places on the pheasant are yellowy with the last remnants of gilded 10K gold (acid tested) seen on the underside of the grass portion or base of the pheasant. I acid tested several different areas of the bird and skewer. Very little of the gold gilding is left on the bird.There is tiny offer of pitting on he skewer near the very sharp at the edges cut to rough pointy to insert into meat dishes at the table to identify the content of the dish.The Egyptian Pheasant was introduced to England in 1800\'s for game. They are not shot now. The piece is hollowed out to keep cost down and as we know, more and more industrial factory owners \'nouveau\' rich families were demanding these wares from the mid 1800\'s.
Excellent and charming detail and sharp on the ends and sides to insert into the meat dishes to identify the content. The Egyptian Pheasant Skewer is Very Rare and hard to find. These type of skewers were used as a desperate desire to impress.
I did a lot of research to identify this skewer. It was almost completely black when I bought it about 20 years ago.
Approximate measurements: 9 6/8 inches tall ( from top of bird to bottom tip of skewer\" and 3.75 inches wide. (Bird measurements). Approx. weight is 33.7 g.
