Antique Cacf Faenza Very Fine Mythological Scene Italian Majolica Pottery Urn For Sale
Up for offers is this Antique CACF Faenza Very Fine Mythological Scene Italian Majolica Pottery Urn. This piece is marked CACF FAENZA ITALY. Faenza is a town in Italy that is famous for making this style of majolica and CACF stands for Cooperativa Artigiana CeramistaFaentini. After Faenza was bombed during World War 2, Italy was in great need for utilitarian pottery for everyday needs and pottery makers began to slack in quality so that they could produce quantity to meet the needs of the people. Some artists refused to lack in quality because they didn't want they're city to become just another pottery making town rather than a famous town for the best quality majolica so they formed this organization. Only the best quality majolica got to bear this CACF mark.Thisurn was madetoward thebeginning of this organization. This urn is finelypainted with a mythological scene with a nude woman playing the lyre and a centaur in front of a body of water with mountains in the background. This piece has a drilled hole through the bottom which was done precisely so this could originally have been a lamp but I believe that it was originally meant to be a urn because of the rolled top rim. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs. This piece stands 13 1/2" in height and is 6" from handle to handle. This Antique CACF Faenza Very Fine Mythological Scene Italian Majolica Pottery Urn will make a great addition to your collection.
