This is one of those unusual pieces which has the old Capodimonte Mark in Blue which dates to c.1850....but also reads: Hand Painted, Made in France, in Blue.
So this could be an authentic piece from the 1850's or a copy Made in France....
Another Mark reads: Aug. 1939...this is written in Pencil in the Bisque...very unusual to see the date....
The jewelry box or casket is 4 3/4" high to knob on the lid...
...the box/casket is 5" in diameter, and stands on 3 feet.
The box is fitted with gilt bronze frame and hinge, feet, and Lid knob, and all work well.
Artist Signed in Blue...Jeau...on the side of the box.
This is made of Soft Paste and is a Molded piece with alternating panels of high relief showing cherubs in various poses, and birds....
Around the Knob is the SUN....
Inside, a painted flower.
NOTE the new screw which has been fitted to hold the knob on the lid......some things do wear out.
We have not identified the French Mark....any suggestions from ers are always welcome.
An interesting, beautiful piece to add to your collection.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR sales.
SHIPPING INFORMATION: Please look at the end of our pictures to find our Shipping Calculator, which is fairly accurate, but does NOT include insurance OR multiple boxes OR Oversized Boxes.
For International shipping, we will be happy to give you a quote if you request it.
OUR PRIMARY METHOD OF SHIPPING IS U.S. Postal Service PRIORITY MAIL. We have found this to generally be the least expense and safest way to ship items under 20 pounds. We use UPS only for VERY LARGE packages or packages OVER 20 pounds. Since UPS does not pick up, our packing charge is HIGHER for UPS shipments. Fred is a packing fanatic and more than one satisfied customer has commented that "the package could be dropped off of a 20 story building and not get broken." Although we require insurance on the more expensive and fragile items (no exception), on less expensive and/or durable items, you may opt out of insurance with the understanding that things do sometimes get broken and you agree to bear full responsible for breakage or damage.
SHIPPING CHARGES: Is it worth it? Here is what a VERY satisfied er wrote us: Just wanted to let you know that I went to the P.O. and when I got home, there it was! At first I was thrilled, then I saw the box. It was bashed, smashed and all but dead. My expectations were low and I opened the box as if I was performing delicate surgery. I must say my hopes rose a little when I saw how well packaged it was. When I finally got the lamp out it was whole! No damage whatsoever! I am very impressed and wanted you to know so you would keep up the good work. I read on your website a little crack about your packaging style and at first I did think the shipping was a little high, but I'm a believer now. That lamp never would have survived if you hadn't put all the care into it that you did. GOOD JOB and THANK YOU so much!
We will gladly ship world wide. Be sure you know your country's customs regulations as they may charge duty (especially on new items).
