Thislovely set was made in the 1830s or 40s, probably by Joseph Taylor ofBirmingham. Theornatetoolsare all sterling silver (tested) and include a stiletto, scissors withsheath, figuralfish bodkin, flower needle case and athimble.Englishsilversmithsdidn\'t mark small items (and have to pay duty on them) until requiredto by law in the early 1880s.

The tools have theornate repoussé floral andleaf designs that were Taylor\'s trademark. The scissors (3 5/8\" long)are decoratedwith flowers and have leafy wreaths around the bows. The steelblades are tight with intact points and cut very well to the tips. Thethimble has a faceted rim and engraved band and is in excellentcondition withno holes or other damage. It\'sabout an American size 5/6(13.7 mm diameter opening) but it will fit a smaller finger as itnarrows. The silver on all of the pieces is in greatcondition with no dents, splits, repairs or other damage.

Theburgundy leather case is also in nice condition. It has a push buttonclosure and the top hasa silver cartouche that has not been monogrammed. It hastheoriginal velvet and figured silk linings with fitted compartments.Itmeasures 4 1/2\" by 2 3/4\" and I think all of the tools areoriginal to the set.
