Antique Cast Iron End Of Day Uncle Toms Cabin Mechanical Toy Bank Stevens 1885:
Antique Cast Iron Mechanical Bank: 1885 Uncle Tom's Cabin OR End of the Day
Size: 3.75" tall x 4.25" long x 2 7/8" wide. The mechanics of this bank work well: place a coin laying it flat on the roof at the very front and center along the ridge. When th lever on the side is pulled forward it releases the man, flipping him forward until he is upside down. His feet push the coin into the slot on top of the bank. The mechanics work very well. When the man is flipped back down so he is unright the lever also flips back to its original position. The bottom of the bank reads "PAT'D JUNE 8, 1885" (the 8 is hard to read) . The plug has a hole/damage in the center and it reads "PATD FEB (?) 1875". I believe this bank was produced by J & E Stevens. I have read that the artist who created this bank molded his fingerprint on the front right of the building so it is part of the bank. It is hard to see.
