Antique Cast Iron J.E. Stevens Hall\'s Mechanical Monkey Excelsior Bank c. 1870s:
$350.00

Antique Cast Iron J.E. Stevens Halls Excelsior Bank made around 1870. All of J.E. Stevens mechanical banks were designed to be entirely gravity operated, as opposed to many similar banks which us springs. The top of the bank opens to reveal a wooden monkey in a tuxedo sitting at a desk (the monkey\'s head is missing). (Originally there was a doorknob on the front that you could pull to pull a string to open the top, but the doorknob and string are also missing). Once the top is open, the bank is operated by placing a penny on the monkey\'s desk. The weight of the penny causes the top of the bank to close, depositing the penny in the bank.Condition of this bank is as seen in the photos. As I mentioned before, the wooden monkey\'s head is missing, as is the doorknob/string. The bank still functions properly without them, you just have to open the top by hand. There is missing paint and other wear consistent with a bank that is over 100 years old. Please take a look at the photos and feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!!
