An antique, 19th Century, Jaques Chess Set complete in its original mahogany slide top box. Green Label to lid states The Staunton Chess Men , Two Prize Medals Awarded 1862. Jaques & Son London. Dates to between 1862 and 1880. Boxwood and ebony pieces. The carved tops of the black knights appear to be carved and stained boxwood. .The Kings knight and castle from each colour marked with a red crown . The white King stamped Jaques London around the base. The kings approx 2.75" high. The set unweighted and with green felt bases. In very good condition and appear to have had little use. The only damage that I can find is a very small chip to one point of the black queens crown, similar to the white queen , a restuck chip to the flange of a black pawn and a small chip to one black pawn. Complete set contained in a mahogany box with slide lid and red felt lining. Comes with a booklet The ABC of Chess by a Lady Seventh Edition , price 3d. in worn used condition .
