Antique Chester H'm Sterling Silver Ladies Or Nurses Belt Buckle Dated 1907 For Sale
Edwardian Chester H'm Sterling Silver Pierce & Engraved Ladies or Nurses Belt Buckle dated 1907
This Antique Ladies or Nurses Belt Bucklemeasures approximately 3 3/8 inches or 85 mmacross from one side to the other when it is togetherand is just under 2 3/8 inches or 59 mmdeep from the top to bottom edges of each side.
The buckle ismade from sterling silver in two halveswith a central catch and two belt bars on the back, the buckle is slightly curved in shape and it has been wonderfully pierced and bright cut engrave decorated with stylized scrolls on either side of a central relief rib decorated bar, it has has Not been engraved with a previous owners initialsor family monogram all as photographed below and the buckle has been impressed with English sterling silverhallmarks that include the Birmingham silversmith or makers mark A.E.J of Albert Ernest Jenkins whose mark is recorded as being used from 1902 to 1915 and it has the Lion Passant mark of English 925 standard sterling silver along with the Chester assay office stylized date letter G for 1907.
Part of the rarity of this buckle is in its Chester hallmark, the Chester assay office was closed in August 1962 and pieces that bear this mark have become harder to find as they are more desirable to the serious collector.
Thecondition is used and nearMint for its age.
The buckle hasNoDents, NoChips, No Splits, NoCracksand No Repairs that I canfind, the decoration is crisp, the two halves of the buckle sit well together, the central catch is workingperfectly, the belt bars are not bent, the silver hallmarks are very rubbed or worn on one side but still partially legible although as this belt buckle isa used antique it does have some extremely minorsurface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expectedand a gentle clean wouldnot go amiss. Personally I thinkthat this antique ladies or nursesbelt buckle can still be worn today and that it will make a superb addition to any collection, I also think that it looks fantastic considering that it's almost 110years old.
