Large and exquisite antique Chinese hand carved Guanyin figure. Seated on a fierce guardian lion, the bodhisattva of compassion bears a serene expression.Sublime lacquered finish,with minute raised textural detail in the flowing robes, an indication that this statue wascrafted for a wealthy patron or importanttemple.
Of significant size, measuring approximately 15 inches tall and 12 inches in length. Kwan yin is rendered with great attention to detail in herrelaxed pose and tranquil demeanor.The Bodhisattva's benevolent face bears a serene expression with downcast eyes and a gentle smile. The artist carved individual hairs beneath her headscarf, a jeweled necklace, gently curled toes, and gave the figure a most regal countenance. The Foo Lion, on the other hand, is lively and wild. His inset glass eyes sparkle, sharp teeth are bared, tail fur swirls, and the clawed feet are firmly planted, ready to pounce. Too much to list, see photos for all of the spectacular detail.
