Antique Chinese Forofferden Stitch Silk Embroidered Peony Butterfly Robe
This antique Chinese forofferden stitch silk embroidered peony butterfly robe dates from the early 20th century during the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is all hand stitched, made of a dark midnight blue color silk fabric, with colorful silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work and tiny forofferden stitch Peking knot embroidery work done on several of the peony flowers. There are embroidered butterflies and peony flowers which represent love & affection and good luck. There are white silk figural embroidered sleeve band cuffs, with gold thread couching work highlights. This magnificent Manchu style surcourt robe is loose fitting, a long full length, with long full wide sleeves, side skirt slit vents and silk knotted toggle buttons for closure down the front. It is fully lined in blue silk. The robe measures 40 inches long, with 50 inch hips, waist and chest and 28 inch wide sleeve cuffs. It is in good condition, with some slight fraying along the edge of the sleeve band cuffs and frayed splits on the collar neck trim (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art!
