What I am offering today in this listing is certainly a Jade piece. As to what it depicts . I leave that up to the winner of this sale. I acquired this piece some 30 years ago in an estate sale that featured Japanese antiques and weaponry . Some Chinese pieces were also included in the sale. Which I also obtained Tang dynasty pieces. As to this piece. What I believe it to depict is that of a demon others have said it\'s a dragon. Based on the rear central fastening appendage. The piece is without damage chips or cracks . The natural veining and structure of the material however does show cracks to it that are contained underneath the initial surface . No part of this piece is broken or at risk of cracking. It is a solid one piece craving . I have taken detailed photos of the buckle in sections . The upper left side may look damaged . But I asure you it is not. The coloration is within the Jade and the edge is smooth to the touch .
This piece has been cleaned at some point in the past. But the patina and color do not looked to be altered or suffer from any prior ownership.
As for its age. I would estimate it to date to the 1800s. However it may be older. This is certainly NOT a fake or modern reproduction. As I have had this piece for over 30 years. However I ask that you look at the detailed photos attached and offer accordingly. One quick point to make BEFORE someone messages me about the content of this piece . Jade is harder then soap stone. And a simple scratch test will tell soap stone apart from Jade. This piece will not take a scratch from a blade with simple pressure . While soap stone does with ease .
