This is for an antique Chinese underglaze blue porcelain double-gourd vase, Kangxi mark, circa 1850. Made of fine quality porcelain, hand-potted double gourd form, with a globular body and a baluster form tapering neck. The porcelain is painted by hand in underglaze cobalt blue, to depict two scenes of figures, pine trees and fences on the body, and two scenes of a bird perched within a blossoming peony tree to the neck, on a foliate scroll ground. The underside is painted by hand in underglaze cobalt blue, with a four-character mark of Kangxi (1662-1722), although this most likely dates from around 1850. The vase measures 239 mm in height and 110 mm in width. It weighs 726 grams. The condition is generally excellent, the base has been drilled for conversion to a lamp, and there are two small glaze frits to the neck rim, no other damage. Please see images.
