This antique Chinese Mandarin hat, Guanmao,was worn by court officials in the Ch’ing Dynasty during the summermonths. This summer hat is conical andmade of woven wicker with corded silk tassels. The top of the hat features afinial made of coral beads and brass with gold gilding. The underside of the finial is signed. The hat box is original, made of leather,coated with lacquer, with a metal latch.It shows signs of wear with age.

Circa:19th century, Ch’ing Dynasty.

Condition:Consistent with age and use. There is asmall portion of the brass on the finial missing. The box is worn in a few places. New latchwith pin added to box.
