Antique Chinese Qing Dynasty Carved Bone Calling Card Case c1890
This is for an antique Chinese carved ox bone calling card case, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), circa 1890. Carved from ox bone, rectangular in form, with a sliding lid. Each face is carved with low relief decoration. The front depicts two scenes with figures, pine tress and pagoda buildings, each within scroll cartouche. The reverse side depicts figures, pine tress, blossom and pagodas, within a cruxiform cartouche. The inderior edge has a semi circular aperture to revmove calling cards, for which it was designed to hold. This card case measures 9.8 cm in length and 6.0 cm in width. It weighs 57 grams. The condition is generally very good, there is a fracture and two hairlines to the lid, no other damage. Please see images.
