Antique Chinese Rooster Fish Gold Couching Embroidery Work Silk Runner Tapestry
This antique Chinese rooster fish gold couching embroidery work silk runner tapestry dates from the 1920s. It is made of a orange rust cinnabar color silk fabric, with colorful silk thread and gold metallic thread couching hand embroidery work, which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There is a rooster and hen in the center, with fish, butterflies and flowers surrounding it. The cock rooster are a symbol of advancement, reliability, fidelity and the fish are a symbol of good fortune, tenacity, fertility. It is fully lined and backed in a matching cinnabar color silk fabric. This long runner style tapestry could be used as a table cover or wall hanging. It measures 48 inches long and is 19 inches wide. It is in as-is condition as it appears to have been washed and is badly wrinkled, could use good a pressing and has a small hole near the center (see close-up). This is a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art!
