Antique Civil War 1840 Artillery Sword With Scabbard - This sword is in great shape for its age. The hand grip and guard are nice and firm with no movement. The leather grip cover and wire on the handle are in exceptional shape as seen in the photos. The blade is marked at the base with a U.S. 186?. I am presuming this is an Ames made sword but the mark is worn away on the other side so I can not be sure. The blade is in nice condition with some surface staining, but no actual pitting. The edge is still sharp, and file or old sharpening wheel marks can be seen in numerous places (like in the blade tip photo). The scabbard is also in great shape as pictured. Over all this is a fine piece of American history. Please ask all questions before offerding. Thanks for your interest.
