Antique Compass Thermometer By C W Dixey C1824.
This compass and thermometer is signed C W DIXEY 3 NEW BOND ST LONDON. It is constructed from ox bone ? The instrument dates from the first part of the 19th Century.
C W Dixey was established by William Fraser in 1777 ,as a mathematical instrument company & proudly served as optician to the Kings & Queen of England and created one of London's most distinguished company's.
This example comes in its original Moroccan red leather silk lined case with hook and eye closure. The instrument itself has a working compass anda thermometer ( in need of repair) . It is circular in form and has rope detail edging around the circumference. It also features a string which enables you to retrieve the compass from the snug fitting box.
The compass measure's 50mm in diameter and apart from the thermometer , it is in excellent condition.
This late Georgian compass and thermometer should appeal to a collectors of early examples of Dixey,s work
