Sets of drawing instruments were often presented to aspiring draughtsmen and architects on graduation. These sets remained a treasured item for their owners and therefore were often kept in excellent condition for many years. .
This sale is for an set of instruments manufactured by Jackson Brothers of Leeds, as indicated on the silk lid lining.
This is a set of small size drawing instruments in an oak case.The set includes avariety of compasses, spring bowsand dividers. There are two white handled pens in the top tray. Two of the spring bows are missing theirnut.The instruments are in a blue velvet lined tray. The under tray compartment is divided intothree and contains three white handled pens, 2 metal protractors, two more dividers and a folding white rule (Smallwood, Birmingham), which is damaged.The pens are from a variety of companies such as Stanley, Wood and of course Jackson.The instruments are housed in an oakbox measuring 8" by 6" by 2", which has a lock but no key.The box is in good condition, but is cracked and a little warped. The lid velvet and velvet tray lining are alsoin good condition, .
