Today we\'re offering an outstanding original true pair of early 1800\'s American oil portrait paintings! This excellent unsigned pair of portraits on canvas looks very much like paintings by listed New England artist Zedekiah Belknap! His paintings have sold well into the thousands! These are two very well executed, fine examples of early American 19th portraiture! The painting of the man measures approximately 28\" x 23\" and the painting of the woman approximately 28\" x 21 1/2\". The stretchers of the man\'s painting appear to be all original, while the woman\'s painting displays replaced stretchers. Both paintings show multiple patches on the back of each canvas covering repairs. The man\'s painting shows evidence of a repair to his left side burn, or considered his right side burn as you\'re looking at the painting. The paint overall is in good shape except for some crazing and an overall stiffness to the canvases. Parts of the canvases around the edges are frayed and torn which I\'ve tried to capture in the photos. All in all, this is a spectacular pair of portraits and extremely desirable!
