Early 19th Century Country Game Rack
What a superb piece of original country folk art!
Game racks were placed in the interior of early homes, often near the kitchen or food area.
When a hunter would return from an outing for game or fowl, or versly a woman coming back from the market, the fresh game they acquired would have been hung on one of thewrought iron hooks.
We purchased this piece on a recent trip to Berks Co. PA. where it was proudly displayed in a period country home holding a collection of utensils.
Perfect for displaying spatulas, spoons, skimmers, lighting devices and more.
Superb in style and design. As you can see this piece has a lovely old coat of buttermilk tan hued paint.
Also of note, someone at somepoint placed some gray paint on the hooks, likely in an attempt to 'freshen' the look of the piece long ago when the iron hooks started developing color from age.
Measures approximately 39" long, truly an impressive size.
The rack would be a perfect accent to any country home, being a great way to hang any dried herbs or wrought iron and wooden utensils!
The piece is offered for seven days with !
