Welcome to our sale! Many of you know us as longtime collectors and sellers of antique and vintage Holiday memorabilia, paper ephemera, antique dolls and toys, and lovely old china and glassware. For your consideration, we present an adorable old composition wash over formed cardboard candy box with its original composition hen on nest guarding the goodies!Please meet Henrietta! This wonderful piece of Easter memorabilia has an outstanding primitive look and features our lovely chicken lady surrounded by her nest made of excelsior. The top lifts off and the candy was placed inside. This piece is marked Germany in purple on the underside and is in wonderful colors of soft, Springgreen, very dark brown to black, creamy white, red and rose pink was used for Henny’s beak.This is a nice sized candy container, measuring 3 ½” tall x 3 ½” wide. The exact condition is as follows:There are some rubs to the paint commensurate with Henny’s elderly age but we think the paint is in magnificent condition! We also notice a tiny bit of pretty, sparkling clear mica that can be seen in bright light. The bottom insert has some roughness at its lip, but when this candy box is closed, of course this can’t be seen.Candy containers such as this one were often filled with sweet treats and given to good little children by loving motherson Easter morning or by teachers as school prizes.We love to place vintage and antique candy containers such as Henny in the arms of our bisque German and French dolls. This makes a stunning display for each holiday.
