Antique Chinese Silk Dragon robe from the Qing dynasty, estimated late 1800’s.This beautiful robe would have been worn by an important man for court functions or other important occasions.Robe was carried home to the US by a long-gone family member who had lived in China for a time many years ago.

A guest in my parent’s house about 20 years ago turned out to be an expert on Asian antiquities and examined the robe as a favor.Here is a brief summary of how he described it:An apricot/Orange silk Dragon robe that would have been required attire for a gentlemen to use at court functions and other important occasions.The design on the robe is a view of the cosmos, with the undersea world at bottom, with the Earth Mountain (the land) rising out of the sea amidst the waves.In the sky above is a large couched dragon surrounded by clouds and surrounding a flaming pearl.The collar is not standard and was either altered or perhaps the robe was unfinished with the collar added later.Sleeves were likewise altered or finished later.Intricate embroidery on apricot silk. There is a \'loop\' on each side at the waist but no belt or sash is included. The Dragon has 5 claws on its feet.

Shape - This is a very old piece and there are spots of wear, rips on the seams of the cuffs, loose threads in several places. Some of the morenotable \'issues\' -Each Shoulder has loose threads that you can see inphotos 6 and 7.There are also other areas of loose threads in a few more spots on the front and back. Each sleeve has worn threads and wear in a few spots on the backs of them around the wrist area - see photo 8. Also each sleeve where they hang down has rips on and around the seam - seephoto 9 for example. The button \'loop\' at the top collar has loosethreads around it. There is general fading to the color on the inside as well as outside... The insidealsohas a few small stains that are darkened red/brown - Ihavenot tried to clean them...
