Antique English Beaded Silk Shoe Thimble Holder
Child's Sterling Silver Thimble * Circa 1820
This nice early slipper is hand made of silk over board and is decorated with delicate beaded embroidery. The top has a silk flower decoration and pins have been pushed in around the edges of the sole. It's smaller than most and holds an English child's sterling silver thimble (tested). It's all hand stitched with unbelievably tiny stitches.
is the best I've ever seen for one of these shoes, almost perfect. It
measures 2 1/2"
wide. The thimble is about an American child's size 1 (10.5 mm diameter
opening) and it fits the shoe perfectly. A
similar beaded silk shoe to hold a thimble is shown on p. 174 of
book Antique Needlework Tools
