Antique French Boudoir Doll Early 1900's Beautiful Face Fur Eyelashes Needstlc :
This antique boudoir doll is so pretty with her real eyelashes [fur?] and beautifully hand-painted cloth face. Most likely from France, but definitely European. Her face is in quite good shape, with just one tiny spot of dirt on her nose. There may be a little age-related darkening and one can barely detect a little ridge going down her forehead [photo #4 on the left side]. She is being offered 'as found' at the estate of a doll collector in Tacoma, WA. Her eyes and cheeks are lovely and bright. She is stuffed with straw [photo #9] and across her chest some paper padding was added, which can be seen in photos #1 and 2. Her lower arms and legs are some sort of ceramic - either porcelain or composite, I am not sure. Unfortunately this sweet girl has fallen on some rough times and needs a loving hand to restore her to her glory! She is missing one hand completely and the other has three fingertips broken off. The arm above the missing hand at the wrist has some residual glue, where perhaps at one time an attempt to re-attach it was made. The legs are dressed in gold polished cotton pantaloons and have painted gold high heels [top left in photo #11]. They are in good shape, it looks like there has been a crayon marking on one of her legs at some point. Her clothing has one major issue: the complete shredding of her silk blouse. This needs replacement, but the rest of her garb is in quite good shape. Her skirt is a deep red silk satin with white floral sprays and leaves. There could be some rayon in the skirt. A scalloped netting serves as her slip - photo #12. A black velvet ribbon trims the skirt approximately 4 inches from the hemline. Her black silk apron is trimmed with cream handmade lace with a lavender design - there is one tiny hole in the apron, which is pictured in photo #11 at the top right. The bodice vest is a black silk damask finished with gold metallic trim straps and edging down a 'V' bodice front and extending around the back. There is lace at the high neckline and edges of what were sleeves and red ribbons at the waist and sleeves finishes off the ensemble. This is pinned to her body. She has two deep golden silk floss braids which are pinned around the back of her head. She wears a large black silk ribbon in her hair which is festooned with a rosette of French bunting, bottom right in photo #11.She measures 20-1/2" tall. A wonderful addition to any collection.
