Antique French Down POWDER PUFF BREVETE Houppette PLI Celluloid Tube
ANTIQUE FRENCH POWDER PUFF BREVETE
Lovely antique powder puff brevet in tube dispenser measuring 3-1/4" long. Made in France and dating 1920s, it features an Art Deco celluloid tube accented with a geometric incised design highlighted with tiny reddish-pink cut glass stones. Marked BREVETE ~ PLI ~ S.G.D.G. ~ MADE IN FRANCE, it is complete with tiny screw cap end fitted with a single glass stone. When cap is removed and end pushed in, the wonderful, pink silk fabric attached to wire arms pops out, allowing the soft pink down puff to drape out and open - pulling the tube end retracts the puff back into the holder.
Condition is very nice - I find no feather loss, silk fraying, discoloration, missing stones or damage other than the faintest line in the celluloid stem - tried to capture this in the photo as shown - it cannot be caught, so uncertain if it is damage or just a flaw from manufacture. Just a striking and unusual little vanity item - can just imagine a vampy Flapper with long red fingernails using this to apply a touch of powder to her nose! Lovely addition to any collection or display!
