Antique French Belle Époque silver thimble with plain knurled top over an applied scalloped border of stylised leaves and vacant cartouche. Made ca 1900. Hallmarked with the boar's head (tête de sanglier) silver guarantee mark - used by the Paris Assay Office from 1838 to indicate a fineness of 800 or higher on small silver articles and marked in the border with a maker's mark in diamond shaped punch: AF with buffalo in between (though the buffalo is obscured by the pattern) - the mark of Alfred Féau formerly of 59 rue Tubingo, Paris (in business from 1875 to 1913). In excellent condition - in round with no holes, dents, damage or repairs. Height approx. 2.4 cm; internal base diameter approx. 1.6 cm; weight 5.8 grams.
