Antique G K Large Railroad German Inlaid Cuckoo Clock Kuehl Co Pre-1908 Runs :
For sale is a large German railroad/train station cuckoo clock. Everything that ison the clock is original. It measures 15” tall x 13 ½” wide. Just outside the minute ring on the dial it says – Made In Germany Kuehl Clock Co Chicago – which dates it to before 1908. From 1908 into the late 1920sthis was shortened to K.C. Co Germany. I found this info on NAWCC.org. There is a paper label on the back which says Made In Germany. Part of the movement looks like a harp inside a square and is marked G K with a pine tree which stands for Gebruder Kuner.
The bird is hand carved and hand painted. The inlay work is very intricate and intact. There is a crack on the dial at 3:00 and on to the pierce work at the bottom to the left of the right hand vertical inlay strip. You should be able to see both of these with the zoom feature. I am pretty sure the hour hand is bone. I am not sure what the numerals are made of. Even with a loupe my eyesight is not good enough to tell and I don’t have the knowledge to know what they would have been made of back then.
This clock runs well but I was unable to test the bird. The clock needs work. I got this at an estate sale and it came with a set of new bellows. I don’t know what else it might need. I am not a clock fixer person. You are, of course, buying it as is.

Below is an email I meant to post under questions and answers but checked the wrong box. I think it clarifies my description a little. Any more questions?? Please ask.Dear oldmillmicro,Hi,
I guess I wasn't clear on the Kuehl part. Their name on the dial is how I dated the clock. They were the importer. I say at the end of the first paragraph that G K stands for Gebruder Kuner. Now that I reread my description I see where I could have been more specific. Kuehl was the importer in Chicago. Gebruder Kuner was the maker in Germany. Thanks for letting me clarify that and thank you for the additional information about the style.

Sent Date: Apr-11-13 14:11:08 PDTDear gpabob77,The GK stands for Gebruder Kuner not Kuehl. It's a small matter but a detail the buyer would want to know. The style is Bahnhausle (Little Train House) because it is patterned after the railway houses at stations and major crossings.
