This
wonderful
little child's sewing workbox is made of cardboard covered with leather
embossed paper and lined with the original green colored paper. The
compartments
inside hold 2 thread barrels, a carved tape measure, a thread waxer, a
packet of needles, tiny steel
scissors in a leather sheath, reversing toothpick, 2 carved &
pierced thread winders, a hammer style double pin cushion and a hand
embroidered strawberry emery. It also has a built in silk pin
cushion. The top is decorated with gold trim and coins featuring King
George III.
The little
scissors are only 2 1/4" long and they cut paper well. The winders are
1" x 1/2" and the thread barrels are 1 1/4" high. The tops unscrew and
the original spools are inside. The tape measure is 1 1/8" high and has
the original silk tape (starts at 1"). All of the
tools are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or
other damage. They have beautiful old grain & patina. If you have any questions about them, please email

Aside
from a little missing trim on top and splits at the front corners of
the top (see pics), the
box is in nice
condition with no other loss or damage. It measures 3 1/2" by 2 1/4" by
1 5/8" high. It
was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece
that
was photographed in the top plate on p. 7 of her book Sew Precious, Children's
Needlework Tools & Dolls' Sewing Tools.
