Antique Georgian drop earrings. 15ct gold chrysolite, turquoise and pearls. Made circa 1790, probably English.

Measurements: a little over 4cm long, not including wires. Weigh 9.1grams.

Exquisitely made in two parts. The slightly elongated round surmounts consist of a light pale yellow chrysolite, golden granules offsetting the colour and shape on either side and below, and with an upper border of pearls and turquoise. The bottom torpedo shaped pendant is suspended via loops, so that it swings as the wearer moves. It consists of 3 gradaded chrysolites, all well matched in colour and oval shaped surrounded entirely by alternating turquoise and pearls. Tiny golden granulation at the bottom echoes that of the surmount. The quality and care taken to make these earrings is shown by the minute granulation between the center stones. All chrysolites are foil backed, which is typical of the period and adds lustre and shine. Turquoise and pearls are sized according to the size of the central gems, another feature indicating the quality of the workmanship. Gold shepherd hooks make wearing and inserting easy and may/not be original to the earrings.

Marks: as with almost all Georgian jewelry, there are no marks.

Condition: exceptionally good considering the age. Negligible wear commensurate with age.
