Antique early 19th century (ca. 1820) sterling silver thimble with protective steel crown. Plain knurled top and body over a decorative foliage and prick dot border. Cartouche engraved with the initials S.E. Not hallmarked as is usual for thimbles of the era but tests as sterling. Not perfectly round at the opening but free of holes, dents, damage and repairs. A nice example of this type of thimble. Height approx. 2.7 cm; internal base diameter approx. 1.6 cm; weight 5.3 grams.
