Antique Georgian Victorian Swiss Floral Enamel & French 18ct Gold Huge Earrings:
Exceptional pair of original Georgian period 1830-40'sSwiss floralenamel largedrop Earrings, approx. 75mm, 3" totallength, on a Pinchbeck repousse scrolled Pendant mount, suspended from 18ct Rose Gold Swiss Enamel hinged front fastening 'Dormeuses' fittings. An absolutejoy for both the wearer and beholder!
Beautiful condition enamel hand-painted witha floral spray anddetailed butterflies on a glossy black background- the design is a littledifferent for each earring of the pair. The colour palette is very distinctivefavouring certain shades which are both bright against the backgroundyet still chalky andsubtle.
The pinchbeck plaque measures approx. 50 x 24 mm and is light to wear - the reverse shows the hollow open repousse frame border and the honeycomb surface texture of the base. (The twotogether weigh approx. 9.5 grams.)
The upper earrings are 18ct Rose Gold with Black & White Swiss enamelling of monochrome flowers, approx. 16 x 12 mm, 20 mm total lengthand have the hinged front-fastening 'Dormeuses' fitting. They are hallmarked with the French Eagle's Head and weigh approx. 2.2 grams.
The edges of the repousse hollow gold'sandwich' are open along oneedge of each cushion-shaped front and missing part ofthe frilled shell border extension. This is barely noticeable when worn and they do provide excellent support and balancefor the dropsto control their movement more than if they were simply on hooks. The Earrings were bought in France and this style offitting isstill the most frequently worn. However the Pendants could be hung on another 'Dormeuse' if preferred - plain black domes are still frequently found.
These Earrings cannot fail to bringenjoyment to both wearer and theiradmirerwith the vibrant colours and happy summer feel.
