Antique German Bisque Swinger Doll Candelabra Candlestick Holder Girl On Swing For Sale
Presented here for your offerding evaluation is this whimsical antique German bisque swinger figurine in its original candelabra presentation! Often times these little swingers are found separately, leaving the owner to ponder what on earthis this for? Those of us who collect such things have come to realize that these figures were used to enhance many decorative but utilitarianitems, used as pulls on window shades and hanging oil lamps for example. Here we seethe swingeras part of a candlestick holderfor the mantle.
Standing 8 1/2" tall by 5 1/2" wide, the little doll herself measures just 4" long. She is suspended between the two columns via a wire rod across the expanse. Her swing seat is molded with two holes for another wire to run through. Likewise, her hands have molded holes to hold the wire. She is able to swing freely on her little perch in a charming way! With long blond hair tumbling down her back, she's dressed all in blue, with little white and gold accents on her costume, matching the decoration on the tops of the candle holders. Though unmarked, she is definitely of German origin. There are no after market damages, but there are the typical manufacturing flaws present, consistent with methods of production at the time. Most notable are the firing fissures seen most readily around the base, as photographed. The seam lines of the two part mold are visible in spots, especially on the sides of the base where they appear like splits. While in the green ware state prior to firing, the weight of the pressed slip settles, forcing the seams open a bit. Paint rubs, or perhaps skips can be seen here and thereon the raised surfaces, including a little skip on her right cheek. There are no after market chips, cracks or repairs.
Ihave been collecting theseswingers for awhile now. I hang themall on a tree at Christmas along withother Victorian decorations for a unique look. I thought to separate thisswingerfrom its candle holder to add it to the tree, butin the end couldn't bear to separate it from its originalpresentation, so now it is up for grabs!
