This whaleoil lamp is in great shape.
It measures approx 2 3/4" to top of the brass collar. The overall height is approx is just a hair over 4" tall. The base is approx 2" in diameter.
This lamp is in great shape, as there are no cracks or chips, but there are some scratches on the glass. The bottom has alot of wear, as this was probably a favorite to use at one time. I can see air bubbles (a huge one on the bottom), swirls, cooling lines and manufacturing imperfections, all common in old glass.
The brass collar is on nice and tight, and doesn't have any splits or dents, but does have a couple scratches that have some greenish residue in them. The collar has a 3/4" thread pattern.
The burner and snuffer cap are in great shape. The burner has some whiteish residue on the inside. The chain is in good shape also. There is no wick for this lamp, sorry. The snuffer cap is not magnetic, so I think it might be pewter. I believe the burner is brass.
Whale oil was considered an expensive fuel, so most whale oil lampswere small. It wasn't until kerosene was used as a burning-fluid that lamps were made much bigger. The basic shapesof whale oil lamps were not used again after the 1850's, simply due to their size. Other "night lamps" were made, but none used the same burner.
