Antique Gold Band Sterling Silver Thimble
H. Muhr's Sons * Circa 1890s
This pretty antique sterling silver thimble has a gold band with embossed flowers and chased chevrons. It is stamped with the H. Muhr's Sons crown logo and size (7). It tests sterling silver, but is not so marked. The band tests 14 Kt, but is just a thin layer of gold. This thimble is shown on p. 156 (plate 13) of American Silver Thimbles by Gay Ann Rogers.
The condition is excellent, in round with no holes, repairs or other damage. The cartouche has a very faint engraved script monogram (AEK). H. Muhr's Sons made thimbles from 1886 until they went out of business in 1894.
