Antique Half Hull Model Boat:
Their is a personal story about this model. It hung in the summer cottage on Lake Oneida that my great Aunt and Uncle bought when they married in 1922. They were both working people and furnished it with hand-me-downs and used furniture. My Great Uncle's Father was Swiss and an inveterate fisherman. I always associated the boat modal with him. In the 40's when we visited in the Summer for 2-weeks I used to sleep on the back porch which faced the lake. Pop's would wake me up at 5:00 in the morning as he trudged out to the boat dock, always teasing me for not getting up and going fishing with him. There were two of these hanging on strings over the sideboard. They were obviously old even then. The hanging strings were attached with tack-like brads to the backs. Holes on the back evidence this. I don't know what happened to the other one. At least this one has survived. The adults used to talk about the Oneida Lake shipping channel as we watched the big ships pass through the Lake to the Erie Canal.
Now, I see that half hull modelsare collectable, so it seems logical to pass it on someone who will care for it. It is in rough shape but appears well constructed. I have tried to capture its construction and condition in the pictures. The back of the modal which hung against the wall is not flat. It is concave. Perhaps that is unusual? This little modal measures 12" long. If you have questions, let me know
