Antique Hallmarked Sterling Silver Egg Cup & Spoon Set in Case 1927
Antiquehallmarked sterling silver eggcup and spoon set. The cup is engraved with the initials "GLW" and "May 27th 1928", andmeasures approximately4.3 cm (1&7/10 inches) diameter and stands about5.6 cm (2&1/5 inches) high from bottom of base to top of cup rim. The spoon measures approximately 9.4 cm (3&7/10 inches) long. The original fitted presentation case has a silk lined interior to the top and a black-blue velvet lining to the base. Thecup ishallmarked on the outside below the rim: maker's initials "M&J", Birmingham Anchor, lion, and date letter "C" (1927), and the spoon is hallmarkedon the back of the stem with the same marks:maker's initials "M&J", Birmingham Anchor, lion, and date letter "C" (1927).The maker's mark is for Marson & Jones, (1919-1937). Genuine antique, old, used, and worn; invery good condition,no holes, no cracks, and no restoration; probablyseldom if ever used. Tarnished and needs proper cleaning and polish. The caseis rubbed and worn on the outside, and the upper case clasphas comeloose where the tiny pins have failed. The threads holding the spoon in place in the fitted casehave also failed. The total weight of the cup and spoon is approximately 40 grams which includes the black colored filler insidethe base of the egg cup (see last photo).
