All Customs forms will state the actual selling price of items shipped internationally. I hardly ever run across one of these pixie ball lamps nowadays, and I haven’t seen one in green for years. Most are dark bronze-toned spelter. With the original green cold-painted surface, they are considered rare.
The dancing pixie stands 8 ½” tall on a 7 ½” by 3 ¼” nicely grained black and white marble base. Total weight = 4 lbs. 2 oz.
Her face is in the best condition of any I’ve seen. The hand painted features remain perfect. The same can be said about the Ivorine/Celluloid face – great condition. On top of that, she’s a cute little gal.
By the way – It still works! I put a new bulb in it. However, if I were you, I’d add a new plug and a new in-line switch.
Designed by the famous artist and costume designer, Gerda Iro Gerdago, and produced by the J. B. Hirsch Company in the late 1920s up into the mid 1930s, they are, to me anyway, the quintessential Art Deco lamp.
More images and commentary continue below my three "Prime Directives:"
1st: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and rarely do I ask for an opening offer of more than $9.00 (sometimes even less).
2nd: I never end sales early.
3rd: I don’t usually clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. I push enough dust aside to expose any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I'll tell you about it.
So rest easy and have some fun.
There are surface losses here and there but certainly nothing out of the ordinary. You can see them easily in my photos, but they don’t stand out as much in real life.
The millefiori ball globe is fabulous, and it is in fine condition. All you’ll note is the normal signs of being removed from time to time to replace the bulb. The colorful canes used for this particular globe created a truly stunning ball. Sometimes even millefiori doesn’t come out as well as the maker had hoped.
I’ll bet he was happy with this one. It has that soft sheen outside that jumps to life when you turn it on.
I guess it was Hirsch who came up with the unique gizmo that holds the globe in place. You place the bottom of the opening on first, then pinch the top of the bracket, and it pops into place.
As I mentioned, you will want to replace the plug and the in-line switch – for safety reasons. As a matter of fact, I may just do that for you before I ship it. You’ll love it.
My preferred method of payment is PayPal.
