Magnificent islamic museum quality embroidery. The tugrah in the central medallion has a date in Arabic script beside it. A person I consulted in the antique oriental rug business who was familiar with Arabic dates computed that this correlates with the western date of 1839 however since I am not an expert on this matter it would be best if you would have an expert you feel confidence in examine the photos to make a determination you feel secure with. The fabric appears to be silk on both the front and the rear . The embroidery measures 21 by 88 inches. The embroidery seems to be in silver and gold thread. There are some condition issues. On the rear the silk lining fabric has two vertical splits and there are several stains on the front and rear. The fabric shows many signs of great age. I have tried to take photos of all surfaces and taken photos of the condition issues I noticed. It was purchased from a collector over 40 years ago on the Philadelphia Main Line.The collector informed me that the embroidery had been from a mosque but this is just his opinion. If someone could tell me what the tugrah says I would appreciate it. No restoration has been done. Please write if you have questions.
