Antique Ivory Manor House Servants Bell Electric Switch Curiosity, C.1900, Italy For Sale
Beautiful Ivory Antique SwitchCuriosityCirca Late 1890-1900Made in ItalyElectrical Servants Room Switch Offering an antique Italian made ivory servants bell electric switch made for a manor house. This is a rare curiosity from the early 20th century. Circa 1890-1900. The ivory switch is very substantial and weighs nicely in the hand. The metal fittings appear to be brass, but have no signs of tarnish. The mechanical switch on the interior is in mint condition. The exterior ivory casing unscrews and there is a very small chip on the threaded edge, which is only a few millimeters in diameter. The coloring in the photos appear to be very true to the actual piece. The open end would have allowed an electrical cord to run through it to a switchboard for various bells throughout an old stately home. It's certainly a remarkably well crafted piece, with very little sign of use. The shape is very neoclassical and resembles a classical column or architectural element. The switch could be wired with a new antique style cord to operate most on/off functioning items, including lights. As a curiosity, its subtle beauty would make it an excellent collectable. Dimensions: Approximately 4.25"L Diameter 2.5"
