Antique J Chein Flea Circus Toy Tin Plastic Mechanical Rare Late 60s Vintage For SaleYou are offerding on the pictured item. This is a wonderful rare find. This toy truly represents the craftsmanship of America. Manufactured in the late 60s by the J Chein company, this is one of the few toys produced by this company to contain plastic as they believed plastic was inferior to tin and would not last. Toy is made of plastic and tin. As shown in pictures. There is minor fracturing in the plastic with a couple of longer cracks. There is paint that has been worn away from the bottom and it has a little dirt on it. When dealing with antiques, I only wipe off with a damp cloth to remove dust build up. I am not a collector but I know everyone has a unique way they like to clean things and I didn't want to damage anything. The mechanics of this toy are still completely intact. It plays music after being wound up and then a plunger device pops the little fleas into the air to be caught by two suspended trapezes. Item is approximately 8" wide by 8" tall. OOPS, forgot one thing, in picture you can see the yellow collar is missing one tine that has broken off.Wikipedia has a wonderful description of what made this company thrive, and tells the story of the ups and downs of being a toy maker, a munitions maker for the US and then again returning to toys. If you get the time, please search J Chein on Wikipedia and learn why this toy is so rare and gives such a brilliant look into past Americana. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
