It is so hard to find Art Deco jewels in Jade and Opal - and in the form of a butterfly!!! This is truly one of the finest. And insect jewels are the epitome of fashion today - look at the recent issue of Veranda I have included with the prices! The wings of the butterfly are a stunning carved green jade. The natural variations in the jade add to the natural look of the butterfly. The body is made up of two stunning fire opal cabochons - these have superb fire! The bottom is an oval cabochon of 10 mm with wonderful clarity and vibrant blues greens and yellows. The top is a round cabochon again with yellows, greens and blues. There are 2 additional fire opals set into the tops of the antennae! All of this is mounted in wonderful 14K gold. The green of the jade, the fire opals and the superb design create a very rare and wonderful estate gem! I believe that this dates to the Art Deco period - c1920-1940 although it could be earlier or later.
