Fine Quality Antique Japanese silver mounted Tobacco Wallet. Meiji period c1880.
The wallet is finely embroidered on a high quality Brocade with very fine soft leather interior.
The wallet has silver mountings. The front mount (photo 4) is an incredible 3 dimensional casting in solid silver depicting a magnificent swirling dragon against a backdrop of Mount Fuji. The reverse of this (photo 8) is an extreemly fine, hand chased solid silver panel.
The Nesuke is organic 'faux' ivory. The inset features a very finely cast magnificent swirling Dragon clasping a pearl. I think that the inset is made from a good quality metal alloy which has been silvered.
The Ojime also looks like a good quality metal alloy which has been silvered and also features a dragon clasping a pearl on both sides.
There are 9 very fine quality hand made silvered chains between the Netsuke and Ojime. There is part of a tenth hanging from the Netsuke. It looks like there are links absent where the Ojime joins the wallet.
The interior of the wallet is nice and clean and looks barely used. The fittings are all superbly hand made from 'faux' ivory and high quality metals.
