Antique Japanese Meiji Bronze Koro Inlaid Mixed Metal :
You are offerding on a Japanese, Meiji period, bronze koro. Large piece weighs approx. 11.5 lbs and stands 14" tall. Koro is beautifully decorated with scenes from nature and topped with a finely detailed carp. Koro has cast stag "ears" and sits on 4 legs.
The body of the koro has inlaid mixed metal decoration featuring a snail, praying mantis, beetle and butterfly amid bamboo and flowers. Two of the cartouches (on one side of the koro) have been lightly cleaned; revealing silver metal inlay. This silver inlay is very pitted. The other two cartouches have not been cleaned and much of the fine design is tarnished/black (see photo). The lid has applied gilded decoration featuring frogs and birds.
Koro is in very good condition for age. There are a couple of small dings on inside metal liner and some light corrosion. Please see all photos for good visual description. Last photo includes a bronze statue that I also have up for sale.
Koro measures approx. 14" tall by 11" at widest point.
