Superb quality antique Japanese Satsuma pottery jar,Meiji period (1868-1912). The ovoid three footed body elaborately painted in gilt and polychrome enamels with different scenes. It has large window on the front depicting many Rakans and attendants.The window on the back with geishas on the tea ceremony and a cherry tree in blossom.Scene shows how people living in daily life with manner. There are enourmous wokmenship between windows by very fine detail work of geometric gold works over different colors. The gold work and painting are beautiful. As you can see from the images, there are lot of different details.the high shoulder adorned with raised panels and two handles in the shape of elephant head. The very nice design.The base inscribed in gold and black with Shimazu family crest above cartouche. Dai Nippon Satsuma Hododa and maker’s signature.
CONDITION: The jar is in good condition with no cracks, chips, painting in exellent condition...Original lid is missing but it's replaced with a wooden one Which fits perfectly.This is museum quality satsuma.
MEASUREMENTS: 15 cm tall and 12 cm wide. Weights: 395 gr.
